Harlequin Mills & Boon Medical Romance Novels

Please Welcome Robin Gianna to our Medical Family

By Susan Carlisle

Drum roll, please!

robin Gianna

I have the honor of introducing you to our newest medical writer, Robin Gianna. Her debut title is Changed By His Son’s Smiles and is to be released January 2014.

You can find Robin on Facebook and @Robin_Gianna on Twitter.

I’ve asked Robin a few questions so we can get to know her better.  Please take time to say hello and tell her about yourself. So without further ado, I give you Robin.

I discovered Medical Romance when:
On a writers loop, I saw a post about the Fast Track submission.  I’d been writing about five years at that point, and thought it would be fun to write a medical.  My husband is a doctor, and we have numerous friends and relatives who are doctors and nurses, so I’ve learned a lot about medicine through osmosis over the years.

I wrote my first story when:
Honestly, I was a late-bloomer, for reasons I wish I understood!  I often made up stories as a teen to tell the children I babysat for, and have always loved reading and the written word, but never wrote stories until about eight years ago.  I have a journalism degree, then worked in the advertising business, so I’ve written plenty of non-fiction, radio ads, and done misc. copywriting.  I sure wish I’d tried my hand at fiction years earlier than I did.

Where do you live?
I live in Central Ohio in the U.S.  We’re lucky to live in a lovely suburb that I like to say is the best of both worlds.  We have about two acres that are quiet and wooded, but we’re close to everything and my kids can still ride their bikes to friends houses.

My best trait is:
I think it’s that, when life knocks me down, I refuse to stay down very long.  I’m an optimist at heart, and try hard to be grateful every day for my many, many blessings and not focus on negatives.

My worst trait is:
I’m not terribly organized and am very good at ignoring clutter and jobs I don’t want to do,instead of just tackling them and getting them over with.  Even more so now that I have real deadlines for the writing I love to do!

Five things on your bucket list:
With each book, try to become a better writer.
Learn to play the ukelele.
Travel as much as possible, and live for a period of time in other places.
White-water raft on the Colorado River.
Find time to get a Master Gardener certificate.

Thanks Robin for sharing a little bit about yourself. I look forward to reading your book.

    1. Thanks so much Becky! I can’t wait to get my hands on a copy, either. Just to hold it, though – I’ve read through it plenty! 🙂

    1. Thank you, Jane!
We have two ukeleles at our house, and my boys learned fun songs so quickly! But, even though I play piano, my fingers just don’t seem to want to cooperate when it comes to those strings!

        1. I’d be more than happy to let you borrow one of ours…I’m sure you can remind yourself how to play Tiptoe Through the Tulips by watching YouTube – and I’d like to hear you sing along, too! 🙂

  1. Welcome, Robin! I keep swearing I’ll get up to COFW, but am starting to think it will have to be a bucket list thing to get my booty up there! (I so hate driving in/thru Columbus…)

January release, perfect way to launch the year! 🙂

    1. Maybe you can make it for a special event, like our conference next fall! I’ll keep you posted Would love to get together with you!

And on my ‘today’ bucket list is to buy YOUR debut medical! So looking forward to reading it!

      1. ooo I suppose i missed this Fall(which is very like me). Holler at me so I don’t have any excuses next Fall 😀

I hope you like it! I’m still trying to figure out how to not grin like a fool when someone says that(or something like it). Like, I’m supposed to say WORDS and not just smile like a goober? DOH 😀

  2. Congratulations and Welcome to the Medical romance fold, we’re so thrilled when we get new authors! If you’re excited now just imagine how you’ll feel when the postman delivers a book full of your debut!!!!! I still love every new arrival 🙂 Emily

    1. Thank you, Emily! I confess to anxiously awaiting my first peek at the cover, whenever it’s ready. And when the book is actually in my hands? I’m sure I’ll be grinning like a fool and forcing everyone to look at it 🙂

  3. Welcome, Robin! It’s great to have a new author join us and I can’t wait to read your debut book. It sounds as though you live in a really lovely part of the world. Lots of inspiration for your books.
    Jennifer

    1. Thanks, Jennifer! My neighborhood is truly lovely, and my new favorite place to edit is sitting in a chair in my bedroom that overlooks the backyard, with a glimpse of a deer now and then. Though one actually startled me one day by coming right up to the window to stare in at me! Otherwise, central Ohio can be a bit dreary in the winter – when it snows it’s beautiful, but we have many days of gray skies and drizzle, which makes everyone very anxious for spring to come!

  4. I can’t wait to read Robin’s books. What a great bucket list too, very exciting! Congratulations!!

    1. Thank you, Jade! The ‘bucket list’ question made me think – I actually wrote one about twenty years ago, and was surprised at how many I’ve actually done! I’m now motivated to sit down and write a long, new one. You’ve accomplished quite a few from your own, I believe!

    1. HA! It’s so funny that you ask…my heroine actually DID originally have a ukelele in this first debut book! But what I’d planned for that never happened, so I took it from her, and am planning to give it to another character in the future. Stay tuned! 🙂

    1. I don’t know about rafting in the WINTER, you crazy woman! How about a summer retreat? 🙂 Thanks for stopping by!

  5. Congratulations Robin! So you want to earn a Master Gardners certificate? I didn’t even know they existed. (Then again, I once killed a cactus). The way you multi task, you’ll earn it while whipping up one of your great meals! Looking forward to you 2014 debut.

      1. Margaret, you’re too lovely to ever be anonymous! 🙂 Any time you’d like to learn all about the best way to get weeding done, I’d be happy to show you, but of course it has to be hands-on learning 🙂

  6. Congrats on the upcoming release, Robin! I happen to know readers are going to loooove it. Good luck with that ukele, and if you need additional practice for that Master Gardener certificate, I’ve got a few overgrown patches here you’re more than welcome to come practice on!

    1. Thanks, Susan! And you are SO sweet and generous to offer me some weed-pulling spots to work on, but think I’m pretty well covered here at home for that
      🙂

  7. Yay, Robin! Welcome and congratulations and fantabulous to have you on the MedRom team!

I enjoyed learning those fun facts about you and I have to say that I relate all toooo well to your worse trait. I’m such a hoarder – especially of papers and magazines and books! and it’s surprising how much room they can take up given enough time of collecting! And they’re sooo hard to part with… after all, I never know when a clipping might be handy! I might just need to know that obscure fact about horses in Outer Mongolia or minerals on Mars!

Good luck with your Master Gardener’s certificate – ooo, sudden thought, you’ll be our go-to person for plant questions! 😉

    1. Thanks, Sharon! I had to laugh about your clippings – just yesterday I was trying to purge some things in my office, and file other stuff. I had various clippings gripped in my hand that I stared at while an inner battle raged between my logical brain and my ‘I just might need this someday’ brain. Both brains won a few rounds, but not sure about the outcome of the war 🙂

  8. Huge congratulations, Robin! I’m a former fast-tracker too…that was such a great opportunity. I love that you want to play the ukelele. I’ve always wanted to learn to play the banjo. Maybe once we each learn our respective instruments, we can play a duet. 😉

    1. I’m sure the banjo is a much more challenging instrument than the ukelele – maybe we can put learning them on our New Year’s Resolutions! A duet sounds wonderful – and if we can’t get those strings mastered, we can play the kazoo together 🙂

  9. HI Robin! Welcome to Medical Romance. Sorry I’m late, but that seems to be the name of the game lately. I think your best trait will serve you well in this publishing business. Lovely to find out more about you. Can’t wait to get a hold of your first book.

    Glad to have you aboard!

  10. So so so sorry to be late to this party, Robin! Have been away fora long weekend with dodgy internet!
Welcome to the family and I’ll be the fist one through the door to buy your debut when it hits the shelves!

    1. Thanks, Amy! Very sweet of you! I already feel a part of this wonderful group of medical romance authors – you all couldn’t have been more welcoming 🙂

  11. Hi Robin! So sorry I was late to the party too- school holidays come along and I never get the chance to sit at the computer!! Huge congratulations and welcome to you- it was an absolute pleasure to meet you (twice!) at RWA! Can’t wait to read your debut! xxx
