“I’m surprised you came here to Alaska,” Jake said finally, after pulling a black “Anchorage Mercy” T-shirt over his head. The clothes helped, covering all that forbidden flesh. “Doesn’t your network usually prefer more glitzy locations?”

“MedStar thought a sports star case would draw in more viewers, so here I am.”

“That simple, huh?”

“That simple.” Molly wiped her face on her towel then slung it around her neck, her nerve endings on high alert with him sitting so close. “Why are you so against the media?”

“I was raised to keep my head down and stay humble. Doing good should be its own reward. And I’ve had some bad experiences with reporters in the past.”

Jake leaned against the wall beside her, his arm brushing Molly’s and sending a fresh explosion of sparks through her system.

“So… Molly Flynn. Daughter of the famous Roger Flynn?”

She cringed, staring across the empty gym. “Yes.”

“We spent a whole semester in medical school studying his suture techniques.”

She gave a derisive snort and he narrowed his gaze, his expression thoughtful.

“Must be hard, living up to that kind of perfectionism.”

“You have no idea.” Head lowered, Molly poked the toe of her running shoe into the car- pet. “Everything in my household was performance-based. Everything.”

“Ouch. I’m sorry.”

“For what?”

Outside, the world might be pure chaos, but in here with him all seemed oddly private and safe. But cracks were appearing in the logical wall she’d built to keep him away—the one that told her touching him, tasting him, would be wrong. Jake was so close now that Molly could see the tiny flecks of gold in his stormy gray eyes, and all her practical ideas and reasons evaporated.

“For what must have been a tough childhood,” he said, his voice gentle, husky as he leaned closer still.

She didn’t move away. “It wasn’t like I was abused or anything.”

“No.” His gaze lowered to her mouth. “But I bet you weren’t nurtured either.”

“Nurtured?” The invisible cord between them tightened, the word squeezing Molly’s heart like an embrace. “N-no. I wasn’t.”

“Such a pity…” Jake frowned, his lips hovering over hers for a brief second before capturing them in a light kiss.

Warning bells clanged in the back of Molly’s mind, telling her this was happening too fast. Telling her she’d only be hurt by this man who saw too much, who fought as fiercely for what he believed in as she did. But instead of pushing Jake away Molly twined her arms around his neck and pulled him closer, craving his taste more than she craved her next breath.

Jake groaned low and slipped one hand around her waist while the other cupped the back of her head as he deepened the kiss. Molly opened her lips, welcoming the gentle sweep of his tongue and his minty, sweet flavor. It was nice and wonderful and…

Over.

Cursing, Jake pulled away and grabbed the cell phone clipped to the waistband of his shorts, blinking down at the screen with a frown. “Sorry. I’ve got a critically ill patient in the ICU. He’s stabilized enough to get a CT scan. They’re taking him now.”

Behind the Dedication

The dedications for our books mean a lot to us – and we know that readers sometimes wonder what’s behind them.  So four of our authors have chosen dedications from their books, and explained.  We hope to be coming back to you from time to time with more ‘Behind the Dedication’ blogs.

Amy Andrews – The Midwifes Miracle Baby

This was my debut novel and I dedicated to a midwife called Karen. The heroine in the book is a midwife fighting the male dominated obstetric establishment to set up a natural birth centre at the hospital she works in. The midwives at the hospital where I gave birth to both my children went through a similar battle to get their birth centre up and running and although it wasn’t ready in time for the birth of my son, it was for my daughter and my midwife Karen, who also delivered my nephew a few years later, was the most amazing woman. Giving birth is such a personal, intimate experience, to have someone who believes in you and your power to do this incredible thing and to be your advocate is a big deal, how could I not dedicate this book to her?

MidwifesMiracleBabyClaire West has sworn off dating and love due to a genetic illness in her family. She doesn’t want to become a burden to a husband in the future, nor does she want to pass her illness on to a child. Unable to have a child of her own, Claire strives to ensure other families have safe births and healthy babies in the birthing center that she runs. The on-call doctor, Campbell Deane, is smitten with Claire and refuses to take no for an answer in his pursuit of her. Eventually he wears Claire down, and Claire discovers she’s in love with him. It might take a miracle for Claire to overcome her fears and open her heart.

Susan Carlisle – Heart Surgeon… Hero… Husband?

My first book Heart Surgeon… Hero… Husband? did have a special dedication. It was to a beautiful friend named Raina. I once asked her where her name came from. She told me it was from a romance novel. Her mother loved to read them and named her after a heroine. Sadly, Raina was killed. When I started writing romances I knew who my first book would be dedicated to. I made sure Raina’s mother received a copy. I miss Raina everyday. She would have been proud of me.

lgcover.9781459223912.jpgDiscovering that her tiny son desperately needs a new heart terrifies Hannah Quinn—especially when she realizes ex-flame Scott McIntyre is the skilled surgeon in charge of the transplant. Entrusting her baby to Scott’s miracle-working hands is one thing, but whether Hannah’s own heart will survive Scott’s devastating charm intact is quite another…

Fiona McArthur – Healed by the Midwife’s Kiss

Fiona’s chosen a dedication which is self explanatory:-

“Dedicated to Finn, author Kelly Hunter’s legend of a four-legged friend who went to doggy heaven while I was writing this book. It just seemed right to say there are heroes called Finn everywhere. Vale Finn.”

9781489259363.jpg

Finn can’t imagine loving anyone again…but could one woman change that forever?

After Dr Finn Foley’s wife abandoned him and their adorable baby daughter, he threw himself into being a father. But when he meets a kindred spirit in widowed midwife Catrina Thomas, he can’t resist getting to know her better. One sizzling kiss later, the happiness Finn has been searching for finally seems within his grasp…if only he’s willing to claim it!

Annie Claydon – Healed by the Single Dad Doc

Annie dedicated her book ‘To Kate.  Wishing you unicorns.’  Annie asked Kate to tell us what unicorns mean to her:-

Kate says – ‘Back in 2014 I found out I had cancer for the second time. I took the news particularly hard. In order for me to create the positive mindset I needed to help get me through the treatment, fear and emotional turmoil, I asked my friends to ‘send unicorns’. The outpouring of love, and unique and wonderful ways in which people rose the occasion helped buoy me through the most difficult time of my life. I have been in remission for almost 4 years now and people still send unicorns. Every single one brings me absolute joy and reminds how lucky I am. Not just to have survived cancer, again, but also to be surrounded by such magnificent people.’

9781474074957.jpg

Could single dad Ethan be the one…

…to put Kate together again?

When kind-hearted single father Dr Ethan Conway comes to vet Kate Foster’s rescue one night, it forges an unexpected bond between them. Could Kate be the perfect woman for Ethan and his young son to let into their life? If Kate can learn to trust again and let Ethan help her perhaps they can both move on—and be a family!

Review – ‘Reunited by their Baby’ by Jennifer Taylor

We can’t let April go by without featuring Jennifer Taylor’s last book, ‘Reunited by their Baby’, which is published this month.  So we’ve asked reader and reviewer, Helen Sibbritt – who needs no introduction to readers of this blog – to review the book for us.  Thank you Helen!

Reunited by Their Baby (The Larches Practice), by Jennifer Taylor

Review by Helen Sibbritt

medical1I love the medical line from Harlequin, they are heart-warming, moving and emotional stories with a sensual pull and heroes and heroines that are rich in character and very easy to love, and this one ticks all of those boxes. I practically inhaled this one, a second chance romance that left me feeling very happy as I am sure it will anyone who reads it and I do recommend that you read it. I loved the setting a small town in The Dales filled with fabulous characters that all add to the story.

Beth Andrews is a GP at the Larches Practice she has a beautiful daughter Beatrix and she is single and quite content with her life, that is until her ex-husband arrives on the scene. Callum O’Neill, is yet to meet his daughter and that is why he is here. Beth has never gotten over the way Callum left, she thought they were very happy, they were trying to have a baby and things weren’t working out and he left. When Beth realized she was pregnant she wrote a letter but he never acknowledged it, Beatrix is ten months old now and a lot of things have changed, but has she stopped loving him?

Callum is a doctor, he grew up without love from his parents and when old enough travelled, he has done a lot of work with aid agencies in Africa and that had taken his time that is until he met Beth and fell head over heels in love with her. They married settled into working together at The Larches and Beth wanted a baby, Callum was a bit unsure about that but was happy with the idea, that is until they weren’t succeeding and he felt Beth needed to let go and he left and divorced her. A year later he finally received the letter she sent and rushed back to meet his daughter and to try and win back the love of his life.

This really is such a beautiful story, trying so hard to have a baby pushed them apart and now gorgeous little Beatrix will pull them together. Neither had ever stopped loving each other, there was a lot of misunderstanding and thinking they were doing the right thing instead of talking but now Beth is so untrusting of Callum and he has a lot of convincing to show her his true love, they are so good together. I loved this story, there are so many emotions happening. Ms Taylor has written a keeper, one that I highly recommend.

I am very saddened that Ms Taylor has passed away and this is her last book and a fabulous story it is. Her stories will always be there to read and re-read she has left a lot of happiness in this world.

‘Reunited by their Baby’ is available now from Amazon, Harlequin, Mills and Boon UK, Mills and Boon Australia and many other good bookstores.

HEALED BY THE MIDWIFE’S KISS is the my second book in the Midwives of Lighthouse Bay Series and my 35th Medical Romance for Harlequin Mills and Boon.

Finn, my single dad doctor, has the cutest baby daughter in Piper and I just love, love, love the way they interact with each other. Then again, widowed midwife Catrina does too, though with a pang for what she’s believes she’s never going to have. Catrina is my Lighthouse Bay midwife, the one who lives in the second cottage on the hill overlooking the gorgeous beach, and I love this book, love these people and love Lighthouse Bay. It was so good to drop in there and catch up with previous characters and I hope you enjoy your visit because there’s more romantic Lighthouse Bay books coming next year.

HEALED BY THE MIDWIFE’S KISS is available now.

My second book this month is out as a paperback in April but the ebook is out now on all platforms.

Mothers Day_FCAMOTHERS’ DAY has a long history with medical romance, some may remember my second ever book for HM&B way back in 2002 which I have the rights back to now. I’ve always wanted to delve into the lives of those secondary characters of Jacinta and Noni’s Aunt Win as well as watch Noni drag Iain into the real world of families. Thankfully, Penguin Random House in Australia loved the idea and here we have a great big, juicy book, full of strong women. I’m so proud of it and can’t wait to share.

MOTHERS’ DAY celebrates mums and those who aren’t really your mum but mother you anyway. And of course this is Jacinta’s pregnancy journey so if you know someone who’s having a baby there are so many really fun antenatal scenes during the classes in the book. I’m sure they’d love it too.

MOTHERS’ DAY is available as an ebook, now.

When I had my four under four boys, and was working two days a week as a midwife, my next door neighbour mothered me when my mum was working. She’d sneak to my washing line and fold all my clothes, or take the boys next door and tell me to just read a book for an hour. You can guess what I read. Yep. Medical romance. She was wonderful. We all know someone who mothers you, it could be your awesome mum, a big sister or someone else, and you are so very thankful for them. I’d love to hear about your special mothering person or someone you mother because you understand. Mum’s are awesome.

Warmest wishes for a safe and joyful Easter.
